When I'm not hunched over a computer writing or over a fire doing coppersmithing, I'm in the garden or hiking/biking with the kids and husband. Or chasing chickens. Or bees. Or runaway cucumbers...

Sara, here

The meat market in town is run by the husband of a Polish woman, and he learned all the tricks and spices and smoking from her uncle. When you walk in, it’s like the air is suddenly saturated with the most amazing smells and you cannot get enough!

The Polish sausage at Bernies comes two ways – fresh or smoked. I love them both. Smoked of course just needs to be heated up with some sauerkraut for serving, but the fresh must be boiled just like brats. You can then eat it straight with the fixings (kraut, mustard, pickles, onions, ketchup, beans or any combination of those) or put it on the grill for a final flourish.

This is a treat for the holidays. So…yum!

However, it’s not quite complete without some holiday tunes on in the background. When it’s time to cook during the holidays, I turn to some of my favorites…they’re classics and you can’t go wrong with a classic, right?

Top favorite music to cook with during December:

  1. Anything Frank Sinatra
  2. Etta. Always Etta.
  3. Jazzy Louis Armstrong, of course
  4. Anything with Bing Crosby, too
  5. Rosemary Clooney is a must
  6. Dean Martin, surely
  7. And…Kenny G for serious background crooning

What are your favorite songs to listen to while preparing the holiday treats?
